I found this at my local Walgreens. I used to love this strawberry concoction when I was kid as a substitue for Lucky Charms. I can’t remember if this was a seasonal cereal, apparently it is seems to be that way.
You know the saying, “you can never go back.”? Well, this holds true for this cereal. The whole grain bits were covered in a what could only be described as red, angry, heavily sugared, kelp paste. It tasted positively disgusting. Then there’s the marshmallows which somehow tasted spoiled. How do you do that? How do you make marshmallows that taste as if they’ve gone off?
The highlight of this endeavor is the strawberry milk at towards the end of this “meal”. I love strawberry milk. It is the treat you would get when you’ve behaved perfectly in front of your parents’ friends. In other words, rarely. However, this time, the so called strawberry milk effect tasted like sugary, stale saltines water. Say what?
General Mills makes Lucky Charms as well, and that still tastes the same, which is awesome. I have no idea how they screwed the pooch on this one.
All in all, it was a very poor experience. My mother may have bought this for me a handful of times. And whether she knew not to buy it often or not, I have to thank her for that. For where she saved my taste buds, I ruined my memory of what used to be an awesome cereal.
